___Doesn’t it make you feel good when someone says nice things to
you or compliments you in a sincere way? We can help others feel these
same kinds of good feelings by speaking "pleasant words" to them. Not
only that, but when we say kind things to others, it tends to make us feel
good, too (Prov 15:23). We do want to be careful, though, that we don’t
speak false and worthless flattery (Prov 26:28). Instead, we want to
speak thoughtfully from the heart and truly mean what we say (Eph
4:15-16).
___ By the way, did you know that sometimes people use raw,
unprocessed honey to help heal wounds? Similarly, kind words are like
putting healing honey on "heart wounds," too. Those nice words can be
especially helpful when somebody is having a tough day or when they
don’t feel very good about themselves.
___ Look for the good in others. A lot of people can’t see their good
qualities. Point them out to them! If you notice something noteworthy
about someone, compliment them about it (Prov 3:27)! If there are any
traits that you admire about them, tell them so (Rom 13:7)! If you are
proud of them or have confidence in them, let them know it (2 Cor 7:4,
16)! If you are grateful for something about them, speak up (Phlp 1:3,
Eph 1:16). If you appreciate something they do for you, say thank you!
Spread some honey around!
___ Giving someone an honest, well-deserved compliment may seem
like a small, unnecessary thing. Nevertheless, the simple, thoughtful act
of speaking up is typically a very welcome blessing……one that is truly
"sweet to the soul."
