___One cannot mistake a normal panda’s main colors: white in some places, black in
others. The Bible is like that. God makes it very clear that certain things are good and
right, while other things are bad and wrong.
___Unfortunately, Many people these days will try to tell you there is no such thing as
absolute truth. They may say that issues are not black and white, but only shades of gray
(which is what you get when you mix black and white). In other words, they are saying
that there is no such thing as right or wrong, only things somewhere between right and
wrong. They may even say wrong is right and right is wrong if that’s what they want to
believe at the moment.
___Their way of thinking is just plain wrong. The Bible contains absolute truth. We can
test everything against the Bible (Rom 12:2). The Bible is our firm foundation. We can
learn from it and use its wisdom to help protect us.
___The devil has always--since the Garden of Eden--tried to get people to question or
ignore what God said (Gen 3:1). He knows if he can get people to ignore God’s word
they will walk away from God and get hurt--and the devil scores! So the devil continually
gets people to rationalize (excuse) their sinful behavior by telling themselves or others that
they have a good reason to do it.
Examples of Rationalizing (Excusing) Bad Choices
1. "These are modern times. Besides, I have a good excuse."
2. "I deserve this."
3. "This is what I want. Surely God wants me to have what I want."
4. "They’ll never know."
5. "They won’t miss it."
6. "Why not? They don’t care anyway."
7. "We can’t afford it right now."
8. "The timing is not convenient."
9. "I’ll do it later."
10. "It’s no big deal. Everybody does it."
___Unfortunately, sinful behavior hurts ourselves and others, no matter how good we
think our reasons are. Rationalizing is one of the devil’s most successful tricks. Don’t let
yourself fall for it! Learn to distinguish good from evil (2 Tim 2:15). You’ll find it in the
ultimate book of absolute truth--The Holy Bible.
Ps 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.
1 Thes 5:21-22 Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil.
